How does registering on the do not call list work

The National “Do Not Call” Registry allows you to register your phone number so that you will be on a list of phone numbers that a telemarketer should not call.

You can register your home or cell phone for free by accessing the website www.donotcall.gov, or calling 1-888-382-1222. Your registration will be effective for five years. This is one more way to avoid telemarketing fraud.

Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at the FTC website: www.donotcall.gov.
