TPS

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps you make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organizations, including charities and voluntary organizations who may call you with offers and information you do not want to receive. Click here to register to TPS or Click here to go to do-not-call list.

If you do not have e-mail or you cannot access the internet call toll-free number 1-888-382-1222, you should then apply for this service personally since they do not process third person requests.

After you have registered your phone number to TPS, your name, address and phone number will be on the do-not-call list. It updates four times a year, which is on January, April, July and October. It will remain on the file for five years. It does not mean that you will stop receiving calls from telemarketers or organizations, but it will decrease rapidly in about three months after your name has been included into the quarterly file.

FAX numbers are not included on TPS. With the Telephone Consumer Protection Act it is against the law if you send an unsolicited FAX to anyone. If you still receive unsolicited FAX from a company or person, do advise them that you do not wish to receive it and have them comply on your request since there is a law against sending an unsolicited FAX. You can also report it directly to the FCC if they still keep sending you unsolicited FAX. Click here and see the rules imposed by FCC.

Note: If you have moved at a different address or changed phone number you have to make a new registration with TPS.
